If we are in schools, we have industrial subjects that we teach to our students how to do industrial works that are usually needed and in constructing our homes without buying ready made materials. One morning when a co-teacher of mine teaches their students I take a look at on it because I am really interested how to make hollow blocks for who knows someday I can make a business on this.

First, prepare materials needed ion making hollow blocks like cement, palay hull, sawdust, sand or soil, wooden mold, can for measuring, trowel of shovel and water. Then measure the materials using the measuring can. Try this proportion to produce strong hollow blocks. 1 can of palay hull, 1 can of top soil without rocks, 1 can of sand, and 1 can of cement. Then, mix the ingredients thoroughly. Form a mound and make a circular hole in the middle of the mixture. Next, pour about ½ of an estimated amount of water. Remember when soil is used, less water is needed then for non-soil mixtures. Mix well. Add more water if needed, to make it neither too dry nor too wet. Get the mold and place it in the upright position on a level surface.

Now you are already to put the mixture in the mold until half-full. Pack the old so it will be more compact. You may add of the mixture until you have filled the mold. Pack again and level the surface using a piece of wood. Afterwards, insert a knife into the mold carefully and pull the mold upward. If you have the right proportion, the mold can be drawn easily. If it is too dry, some of the mixture will remain in the mold. Add more water to the mixture to remedy this problem. If it is too wet the top side of the hollow blocks will sag. In this situation, add more dry mixture. Lastly we need to sprinkle the hollow blocks daily with water. Do this for a curing period of 28 days. That’s all and very easy work if you are dedicated to learn but, it is a hard job that is for men only.
